The Epistle

Vol. 11, No. 41_                                                                                                                                    November 19, 2008

Thanksgiving Service – Nov. 23 – will be postponed and rescheduled for sometime in January.  The rescheduled service will still be a service of thanksgiving and gratitude for our youth group ministries and the over 10 years of service and commitment by our youth fellowship director, Kim Silvia.  Watch the December epistles for more details.  Sermon Text for Sunday’s 8:30am & 10am service:  Ephesians 1: 15 – 23

HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEKEND This was a very successful weekend! The youth raised over $9,000.00 so far and still hoping to reach our goal of $20,000! If you were out and about this past weekend, you probably ran into a few of our Sr. High youth collecting money or saw the cardboard box campground outlined with flags and campfires burning on Redway Plain! The youth obtained pledges, panhandled at various locations—such as, the town dump, post office, the traffic light at Rt. 44/118, walked door to door and prepared/served 300+ meals for Crossroads of RI and area soup kitchens.   This group of courageous kids braved the wet weather and sacrificed their weekend to work toward this worthwhile cause. Also, some of the Jr. High youth fasted for 24-hours Saturday and raised pledges toward this event!  The Middle School & Jr. High youth met Saturday afternoon to put together 300 bags lunches to give out at the shelters.  It was a great to have all youth groups involved! Thanks to the many advisors and adults that helped with this enormous event!
If you wish to donate you may send a check to Rehoboth Congregational Church Homeless Weekend PO Box 325, Rehoboth, MA 02769 (checks payable to RCC Youth Group).

A Legacy for Generations to Come –
Information Meeting Nov. 23 (Sunday) 11:30am (after the 10am service)
Remembering the Rehoboth Congregational Church in your will or estate plans are easy and effective ways of supporting the church into the future.
On Sunday (Nov. 23) we are hosting an informal meeting following our 10am service to share information about a church initiative called the Greater Works Society.  Some in our congregation may be thinking about making a gift to the church in their wills or estate plans but are unsure how to do it.  Rest assured there will be no sales pitch or pressure of any sort.  We simply want to offer you an opportunity to learn more about the concept of planned giving and answer any questions you may have.  Information will be shared by Ben Singer who is a church member and works at Citizens Bank.

If you have further questions or are unable to attend the meeting and would like more information, please call the church office.

CONWAY HOUSE & ATTLEBORO HOMELESS SHELTERS - SUNDAY, DEC. 14 FROM 2:00 – 6:30

Once again we will visit 2 homeless shelters during the holiday season.  At each we will prepare and serve a hot meal, help decorate the homes with craft projects, and enjoy time with the women and children of the shelters.  If you would like to join us, call the church office or sign-up on Sunday mornings in the fellowship pads or the discipleship table.

CHRISTMAS TOILETRY BASKET

When the church visits the Conway House and Attleboro Homeless Shelter on Dec. 14th to share a meal and decorate for Christmas we would like to provide a “Christmas Toiletry Basket” for each mother.  Each basket could be a medium-size plastic laundry basket with the following items:  soaps, shampoos, conditioners, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorants, hand towels, bath towels, wash cloths, body lotions, bath salts, etc.  The baskets need to be completed and dropped off to the church by Friday, Dec. 12th.  Anyone interested in providing a basket, please drop it off on Sunday or during the week.

GIVING TREE – The “Giving Tree” will be in the sanctuary starting on Nov. 30th.  There will be cards on the tree with the name of a child in Rehoboth that could use a gift at Christmas time.  You may come in during the week and pick up your card(s) or take it from the tree on Sunday mornings.  The deadline for returning the gifts will be Sunday, Dec. 14th.

Cabinet Meeting - A Cabinet meeting is scheduled for November 30 (Sunday) at 11:30 am (following the 10 am worship service) to present items from any church board or committee.  Members of all church committees and boards are encouraged to attend.
